Garden Pictures

This morning, I took a few pictures of the flowers and gardens here in the Valley. It has rained so much the last couple of days, I again can’t get into the garden to get some weeding done. That’s OK, I know I’ll find something else to do. My list is still pretty long.

June 20

The highbush Cranberries are in bloom, these shrubs really always look beautiful. There are only two, so we’ll never get a huge harvest, but that’s OK. These bushes took several years to settle in, but now that they have, they put on some good growth spurts every year.

Behind them are the Irises that are tucked into the Greenhouse flower bed, all the irises are blooming now. So pretty, I have lots of purple ones, a few white ones and some purple and white ones.

garlic jun 20

The garlic is doing great! I’m glad I got in there to weed it out on the weekend. Nothing to do now, but keep it weeded and cut the scapes when they start showing up. I will probably pickle some Garlic Scapes, Graham loves them.

potatoes june 20

The potatoes are finally poking through. I got them planted late, in the first week of June, but that will be fine. Our growing season here is short, but the potatoes don’t need to be harvested until mid-October so they have lots of time to grow nice and big. Lots of weeds in the potato patch, but I need the soil to dry out more so I can get in there.

barn pathway june 20

Here’s the Barn Pathway garden bed. Irises blooming, the poppies are just starting to bloom, pansies are a riot of colour and I see that the Jacob’s Ladder self seeded last year. I have found probably 8 small plants, love it! I’ll probably move them around in the Fall to fill in some of the blank spaces in this pathway bed.

Just saw this website on Pintrest of course..lol and I want to know where I can get some of those highbush cranberry plants? Did you have to order them and if so, who from?

Great site and it looks beautiful there. We are back in Spokane now for good and have the raised beds all in and planted this year but always love new and different plants.

Thanks in advance if you can give me the info on those beauties!

Hi Patti, I ordered mine through T & T seeds out of, I think it is Manitoba. You can probably see from the picture, that the highbush cranberries are a very pretty shrub, which makes them ideal for landscaping and gathering the fruit. Win-win, love that!

Nice to see your potatoes poking through. Ours aren’t doing much of anything. 3 have started but all the others haven’t showed any signs of growth.
Here I was hoping that the new owners here would at least get a few potatoes.
Guess we should have hauled in some good compost beforehand.

Your gardens by the way are beautiful. —Krystal

My potatoes took quite awhile to come up, I’m not sure if I planted them deeper this year or what. But my volunteer potatoes on the other half of the garden were coming up weeks ago! You never know, yours might still appear.
