You Don’t Need to Use Pesticides to Have a Great Looking Lawn

Over the last five years or so, there has been a huge movement towards organics. In truth, the movement has been going on for decades, but lately the number of people who are recognizing the importance of more natural living has exploded.

There has been renewed interest in organically grown food and this has gone hand in hand with the importance of labelling GMO foods.

I think it’s largely due to social media and blogging that there has been a huge increase in people looking to live more healthy lives and eat more healthy foods.

Plant Clover to Attract Bees

It used to be (and still is, in many cities and suburbs) that the front lawn was singlehandedly the most important part of the yard.

I used to think that way, too, and spent money and time putting herbicides on our front lawn to make it lush and get rid of the weeds. Now I find that I am planting clover in new grass areas to attract the bees!

Having the nicest lawn on the block was something that many home owners strived for.

Weed killer to get rid of the weeds, moss killer to get rid of the moss, whatever problem one has with their front lawn was easily fixed by applying (and breathing in!) deadly pesticides.

Now, more people are realizing that is not the way to go. Herbicides get leached into the water supply, they are breathed in by children playing on a recently sprayed grass, backyard picnics enjoyed by families who don’t realize the dangers that lurk in their grass.

Some people really enjoy their front lawns. The backyard is their private space, but the front lawn is what all the neighbours see.

I too love a lush green lawn, the difference is now I am no longer willing to use herbicides to achieve that end result.

There are organic methods that can be used to get the lawn you want. Avenger Organics Weed Killer is just one example.

There ARE completely natural ways to have a beautiful lawn. Largely, it is a matter of “crowding” out the weeds, using the grass to do so.

The healthier the lawn, the less weeds you will find. So put the emphasis on your grass instead of on your weeds.

Use a weed puller to get rid of the dandelions. If there are bare spots in your lawn from pulling weeds, sprinkle some lawn seed down and then keep it moist for a week or so.

Far better to have something natural sprayed on your lawn, instead of using strong pesticides. So if you do want to keep some lawn around your house, consider using treatments that aren’t bad for you and your family.

Who wants their children playing on a deadly lawn?

Well said! Who wants to walk in their bare feet on poisoned grass! When you really look into the side effects of some of these herbicides, it’s SCARY, and this stuff gets absorbed through the skin, and leaked into the soil. All the wildlife/animals that is effected by it is sad too 🙁

Very true JP, hope parents realize when their kids are out running around on the lawn with bare feet!
