I have never, never ever, never in my whole life been surrounded by so much free meat as I am here in Prince Rupert.
They are everywhere – one day we walked out to the car to see a 4 point right in the driveway.
They wander around on their own or with the family – they are all over town here.
“You’re beautiful…want to meet my freezer?”
I wish – however, there’s no shooting allowed in town. Actually, there is no shooting allowed at all on the small island Prince Rupert is sitting on.
And those deer? They know that! A memo was sent out, I am sure.
Another beauty – the deer are a fair bit smaller here than they are at home in the Valley.
Looks like there is enough meat on this one. He’s several years old.
Here’s yet another buck. See that temporary fencing? We use that a lot at home – it helps us create new grazing areas for our chickens and meat birds. Easy to set up and the best thing is you can take it with you when you leave.
I can see deer populations in the cities continuing to grow if something isn’t done. Over time, the deer lose their fear of man and deer can be quite vicious when protecting their young. They are cute and even beautiful, but remember they are wild animals.
(They taste great, too. That will have to wait until we are home again – another bonus of Country Living is the abundant wildlife!)
