The Garlic plants are sending up their scapes now – it’s important to cut the scapes off. This will allow the plant to put all its energy into making the bulb bigger. That’s what we want – the biggest Garlic bulbs we can get!
Each plant sends up one scape.
Here’s a closeup of what the scapes look like. They’re pretty funky looking and look great on the dinner plate.
So, what to do with all these scapes? We steam them and have them as a dinner veggie. They do have a stronger taste than the garlic bulb – you can also quickly fry them with a splash of extra virgin olive oil.
We also make Garlic Scape Pesto and we even pickle the scapes. Check out the recipes and if you want to know more about how to grow garlic, check out the 4 part series all about growing Garlic on this site.
